Chicago Rumfest Recap - Domestic Rums Surprise
June 2, 2009

"With over 150 rums available for sampling, odds were good that we'd find something worthy of notice. Even we were shocked to find the two brands that most impressed us hailed from... Colorado and Tennessee? Rums are now reaching for the craft distilling bandwagon, and Montanya and Prichard's are two very good entries. Montanya (based in Silverton, CO) uses Hawaiian sugar cane and fresh, clean snowmelt water, distilled in a hand-hammered alembic copper pot still. It's then aged in American oak at high altitude, which causes more distillate to run through the pores of the wood. This results in a smoother tasting rum. Montanya's white rum was one of the smoothest-tasting white rums we've had in some time."

Montanya Oro Rum Review by Roger Patteson and Dave Russell of RnD Rum Reviews
May, 2009

"Very Smooth (on the RnD scale of Harsh-Smooth-Very Smooth-Extremely Smooth).  Pale golden straw in color denotes Montanya Oro Rum’s relatively short tenure in American Oak Barrels and added honey. The nose reveals simple, clean and pleasant notes of buttery vanilla, honey, and a light sweet alcohol.  Initial taste reveals a medium body, moderately warm, dry, charcoal and woody, with flavors of cocoa, vanilla, and traces of white pepper. The finish is medium in length and warm with a hint of caramel, honey, and light chocolate lingering on the back of the tongue."

The Rum Connection
Montanya Rum Review by Colin "Rum Capitan" Sayer of examiner.com
March 10, 2009
"I give Montanya Oro Rum 4 very excited pirate parrots. Pirates rarely venture into the mountains, as mentioned here, but trust me, me hearties, this be worth the venture, YAR!"
