Pets Behind the People: Part I

At Montanya, we love to celebrate the people behind the brand. From distillers to bartenders and the cooks on the line—not to mention the team in the office and out in the world making our rum easier to find—our employees make a lot of things happen. There’s another team that keeps us all going, however, and that’s our furry, four-legged paw patrol. Read on to meet a few of the pets behind the people:

Cassius Clay Hoskin

Cassius Clay Hoskin

That’s right. Cassius has a middle name, and it is well-deserved. A Pyrenees mix, our founder and owner Karen and her family found Cassius abandoned on the Navajo Reservation near Lake Powell, with his litter-mate and brother. When they couldn’t find the owners, they took both dogs home and have given them long, happy lives. (Enzo passed away a few years ago.) Cassius has been with the family for almost ten years. As you can see, he loves to burrow his face in the snow. He’s a fearsome hunter of fish, squirrels and marmots, but incredibly gentle with kids, babies and his stuffed bear.

Loki and Guido

Their smiles say it all: Loki and Guido love life with distiller Gilles Hügi. Guido is a 9-year-old Boston Terrier/French Bulldog who likes smelling everything and eating anything he can get to, including deviled eggs (his favorite). Six-year-old German Shorthair Pointer Loki has endless energy and loves to run in the woods or just about anywhere with open space. He also loves to pheasant and grouse hunt, and one of the only times he stands still is when he’s pointing birds. Cuddling up next to a warm fire at night after a long day of play is also a favorite of his.

This feline is still in his wild kitten phase, so his favorite things are wrestling, chasing and playing. (And—we have a feeling—keeping bartender and house ambassador Hillary Moore on her toes.)

Ceilidh

If you want proof that dogs understand English, spend some time with Ceilidh (pronounced Kaylee, though she also goes by Kk). Business administrator Melinda Hulm and her family lived in Scotland before moving to Crested Butte, which inspired the spelling of Kk’s name. When she tilts her head, there’s no doubting she’s listening hard. She knows how to find her “necklace” when asked, and be ready when you say the word “school.” She knows that means it’s time to head to one of her favorite places: Oh Be Dogful Doggy Daycare. So many friends and so much play time!

Stay tuned to meet more furry friends next month!
