ENVIRONMENTAL SUSTAINABILITY

When it comes to environmental sustainability, we’ve left no part of the business untouched and are always working to improve. It’s not easy and perfection is hard to come by, but we’ve learned that it’s always possible to make better choices for the planet and our people.

Reducing our footprint one step at a time.

Sustainable business practices have been important from the start, but beginning in 2012, we really shined a light on all aspects of our environmental footprint.

Since then, we’ve made some big changes. Our distillery, barrel room, and tasting room are 100% carbon neutral.

We work with Climate Hound to offset carbon production through programs that supply clean cookstoves to Nicaragua.

Most recently, we installed a closed-loop distillery chiller that saves up to 250,000 gallons of water per year.

We also partnered with local compost company, Elements Compost, to compost all food waste from our tasting room. This company turns compost into soil that our community can then use in gardens.

Our bottle supplier is the first beverage packaging company to be certified Cradle to Cradle for its production methods.

We print on recycled stocks using soy inks from GreenerPrinter, and we print our labels and case boxes on FSC certified paper.

Our Tasting Room and office are built to a LEED certification standard. We do not use any plastic straws, plastic to-go containers, or plastic cups.

We purchase American-grown sugar cane from a co-op that generates its electricity and boiler-firing heat from the sugar cane itself.

We’ve reduced landfill-bound waste by 24%, and are always looking for new ways to reduce and eliminate waste. And that’s just part of the story.

Sustainable Rum: Feel Good About What You Drink

We love rum. We love our planet and community more. By building an international rum company, our aim is to enable our staff to thrive, empower women and people of color to take on new roles, contribute to our community, and lead our industry in environmental sustainability and social responsibility. As the world’s first certified B Corp rum distillery, we have committed to balancing profit with purpose and undergoing a rigorous assessment every three years so you know every claim we make is true and verified. Our efforts have earned us recognition as a Best for the World company—we’re honored, of course, but most of all inspired to keep up the work!
