Employee Spotlight: Megan Campbell
Meg Campbell joined Montanya as Assistant Head Distiller in January 2021, moving to Crested Butte from Louisiana at the coldest time of year. We’re glad the sub-zero temperatures didn’t scare her away because she’s been a great addition to the crew! In the fall of 2021, Meg was promoted to Head Distiller at Montanya.
Trying Something New
Moving across country to a small mountain town that I’d never been to nor knew anyone was always an aspiration in the back of my head growing up. I was born and raised in South Louisiana, near New Orleans. I fell in love with the food and culture but knew I always wanted to live somewhere with a more diverse landscape. So here I am, in one of the most beautiful parts of Colorado.
A Background in Science and Distilling
I have a bachelors in Chemical Engineering from LSU (Louisiana State University), and through my studies I grew a love for the process of distillation and being able to make a product from scratch that my family and friends could enjoy. After college, I spent close to two years with Three Roll Estate in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, as a distiller and handling all things production.
I always had a love for rum, from family vacations to the Caribbean growing up. My love grew enormously as I started to actually produce rum for a living. I used my job as an education tool to show my community just how great rum can be when it’s made from fresh, local ingredients and crafted as an art with science in mind.
Landing at Montanya
Was meant to be…. I literally came across Montanya on my Instagram feed. Did some research into the company, was totally blown away, thought it would be a great fit, and here I am!
Outside of Work
You can find me anywhere outdoors, soaking up the sunshine. I love the water, whether its paddle boarding, jet skis, boats, just floating down the river, you name it. One of the things I’m most excited for is summer hikes in Crested Butte with all the beautiful wildflowers. I’m a huge plant guru. Music keeps me going, and has always been a huge part of my life. I grew up seeing live music on the street corners in New Orleans, and then as I grew older I loved to travel to see artists at music festivals and curated events. Also love to host dinner parties at my home—soul food cooking has always been a huge part of my life, being from New Orleans. I love to share my love through food with my family and friends.
