Rum Cocktails for Every Summer Occasion

Hailing from a mountain town, you’ll never hear us complain about winter—but there is a special kind of freedom that comes with summer. Trails open, peaks melt out for spectacular hiking, and even the shortest after-work hike or ride brings you face to face with mountain wildflowers and incredible views.

Not to mention the opportunities to simply be outside: Sitting on the patio. Gathering around the fire. Camping. Wherever you live, we suspect summer brings a similar sense of joy and so many moments perfect for enjoying a rum cocktail. In this blog post, we round up our favorite cocktail recommendations for every summer occasion:

For the Patio

Patio season is short in the mountains, so we make the most of it. On a hot sunny day or warm summer evening, you can’t go wrong by putting your feet up and enjoying a Honey Lemonade Cocktail: Montanya Platino, fresh squeezed lemon, mint and our signature honey lavender syrup, topped with soda. You’ll find the recipes for the cocktail and the syrup in our recipe collection, along with a video on how to make it.

For Your Next Cookout

If you’re more of an Oro sipper, then you’ll enjoy the Bay Manhattan while you work the grill or prep the salads—stirred, not shaken, it features a simple-to-make bay leaf reduction that is delish when combined with Oro and has no sugar added.

Summer Solstice

Blueberries and basil are both in season just in time for the longest day of the year, and they give the Thai Boxer a decidedly summer feel. What’s more, it’s a unique flavor combination sure to impress your guests if you’re hosting a Summer Solstice Soiree.

More of a strawberry fan? Check out the Strawberry Rhubarb Pie. It also features Platino, but makes the most of rhubarb bitters to offer up a cocktail that truly tastes like summer in a glass.

The Beach, the Lake or After Your Ride

There’s something about a cold, refreshing beer on a hot summer day, especially when you’ve just finished a mountain bike ride or you’re sitting by the water. The Renegade combines St. Pauli Girl non-alcoholic beer or your favorite IPA with Montanya Platino. Be a rebel—give it a try!

4th of July

No question, the Berry Jive makes for a perfect cocktail on the 4th of July. It makes use of fresh summer berries that just happen to be popular on Independence Day: strawberries and/or raspberries. They give this cocktail a bright, beautiful color and a refreshing flavor with fresh citrus, fresh herbs and Montanya Platino. Get the recipe.

Camping

Who can pick just one great cocktail for camping? We put together this post with three of our favorite cocktails to take camping—including one you won’t find anywhere else.

National Watermelon Day (August 3rd)

Okay. We admit it. We didn’t know National Watermelon Day was a thing. Now that we do, we happen to have the perfect rum cocktail to celebrate: a Watermelon Mojito. Need we say more?

Sitting Around the Fire Pit

It’s our humble opinion that sitting by an outdoor fire pit can be just as sophisticated as sitting by the fireplace. That’s why we’re recommending the Rum Sour for this fine summer occasion, which features Montanya Exclusvia—a limited release rum that offers a dry, tannic finish rare in rums. Combine it with lemon juice, egg whites and simple syrup, and you have yourself a cocktail that makes a statement.

Labor Day

This holiday can spark a little debate: is it the last hurrah of summer or the start of fall? If you’re holding onto summer, then may we suggest Boat Shoes? It takes a bit of planning ahead so you can make your own simple infusion with Oro Rum, but it is oh so worth it. It’s fruity and tropical with coconut, pineapple and passionfruit.

And if you fall into the latter camp and see Labor Day as the coming of fall, then of course we have to recommend our Fall Manhattan. It combines Oro Rum, Pür Spirits Williams Pear and Bitter Housewife Cardamom Bitters for a delightful occasion.
