Employee Spotlight: Andrea Schultz

Before coming to Montanya, Andrea Schultz (formerly Schumacher) built her career in HR with a global outdoor company for seven years. We feel so fortunate that she decided to join the Montanya crew in August 2020 as the Director of Human Resources & Business Development. She’s helping us prepare for the future as a growing global company so we can take care of our people and our business. Plus, she loves to smile!

Andrea’s Path to Crested Butte

Andrea Schultz

I am from a small coastal town in the Redwoods in Northern California, called Mendocino.  I have now lived in Crested Butte for 19 years! Wow. I had a five-year-old son at the time I chose to move (who is now 24!), and thought it would be a good place to raise him. I met a lovely man who was attending school in No. Cal. who was born and raised in CB, and my son and I moved back here with him and I grew my own roots here.

The direct access to the outdoor recreation I love in such a special community full of amazing people is tough to ever consider leaving.  I love the ocean but the mountains have become my home.

At Home at Montanya

I’m grateful to be part of a female-founded and -owned company that deeply cares about environmental sustainability and social justice. Immersing myself in the B Corporation Community has been fulfilling and inspiring. I am also on the local BLM (Black Lives Matter) Coalition Advisory Board and lead on the BLM Coalition Business & Economic Development Subcommittee. I feel like I align really well with the culture and momentum of Montanya. I also get to work with a pretty incredible crew of humans.

A Sucker for Shelter Dogs

I am currently “fostering” a 10 year old sweet pea named Reggie. His time was up at a shelter in Texas—thank you Gunnison Underdog Rescue!  We are working through some challenging medical stuff, but he is already my love. I am also a part-time mom to a two-year-old Blue Heeler named Kai, in addition to volunteering at Paradise Animal Welfare Society (PAWS) to get even more animal therapy.

On a Weekend…

My mountain bike is truly my happy place and just being in these mountains in the summer. Skinning (skiing up hill and down), Nordic skiing and hockey are how I stay warm and happy during our long winters way up here at 9,000 feet above sea level.

Passionate About:

Different cultures and countries! I miss travel so much! Central and South America always draw me back. Oaxaca is where a piece of my soul lives. Such a vibrant, beautiful and special place. I am continuing to chip away at my conversational Spanish studies—it isn’t going as fast as I would like, but I am getting there.  Bucket list!

As an Animal, Andrea Would Be…

A Crested Butte dog, of course. Spoiled and living the amazing outdoor mountain life.

Favorite Montanya Cocktail

Well… it’s not on the menu anymore (shhhhh)…but the Ruby Red. Most of the bartenders know how to dial it out. Just fresh grapefruit and Platino topped with soda. Simple, refreshing and a great boost of Vitamin C. Next in line is the Cucumber Templar.  I do like to just sip Exclusiva as well… Montanya made me a rum lover.
