Employee Spotlight: Katie Thomas
Katie is a Bartender and House Ambassador at Montanya, and recently stepped into a new role that we’re so excited to have: Sustainability Manager. Over time, we’ve learned that there are two aspects to managing environmental sustainability: identifying and implementing changes, and then managing them over time. We know that Katie will bring such a great energy and commitment to this new role! Plus, we’re so excited about her recent engagement to her longtime sweetheart…😃
Meet Katie:
A Crested Butte Native
I was actually born and raised in Crested Butte. I left here for about 10 years, went to college and lived in upstate New York, then in Denver. But my heart has always been in the mountains and I never could find the sense of community that I had growing up here, so I came back to my mountains and my family. I have been home for about seven years. I have since met my partner (to be married next year) and my work family at Montanya.
On Her New Role
This sustainability position is in its infancy, and we are figuring out what it means, but as a B Corp we take extra measures to ensure that our business practices have as little negative effect on the environment as possible. My role is to find new ways to make that happen, as well as enforcing previous practices to encourage our employees to always think about what impact we have on the Earth.
On a Day with No Obligations
No obligations? Yoga, coffee, reading, hiking/biking or skiing depending on the season, then cocktails and dinner with friends!
Four-Legged Friends
I have two six month old kitties, Bruja and Calabaza (Baz for short). Bruja means witch in Spanish, and Calabaza means pumpkin. They adopted me a few days before Halloween. I'm working on teaching them to walk on a leash so I can be that crazy cat lady...
Footloose and Fancy Free
I love to travel! In the last year I got to spend three weeks in Vietnam and two weeks in Maui. Barcelona is my favorite city, Costa Rica beaches are a dream and next on my list? Hopefully Peru/Chile or Alaska.
I created the Passion Fruit Sour on the Montanya cocktail menu after drinking tons of passion fruit cocktails in Asia, and it is my favorite drink. It's super tart, with a little spice from the coriander and the froth from the egg white. Mmmmm! Cheers!
