6 Classic Cocktails

These basic cocktails are simple to make, but that doesn’t mean they’re short on flavor. There’s a reason they’re called classics! With only a handful of ingredients each, you’ll have no trouble recreating these delicious cocktails and impressing your guests at your next get-together.

Classic Daiquiri Recipe

It seems that nearly every spirit can be enjoyed as a cocktail featuring lime and simple syrup, and rum is no exception. If you enjoy a white rum like our Montanya Platino, this Classic Daiquiri recipe doesn’t get much simpler (or tastier). If you have dark rum on hand, like our Montanya Oro, check out this variation of the Ti’ Punch.

(And just so there’s no confusion, these recipes aren’t the frozen slushies you might associate with beach vacations. The Daiquiri is actually a classic cocktail that dates back to the 1890s and was later enjoyed by Ernest Hemingway. Learn more here, or try the Hemingway Daiquiri.)

Old Fashioned Cocktail Recipe

Move over bourbon. The Old Fashioned is another deceptively simple cocktail with as few as three ingredients, and we quite enjoy it with any one of our dark rums. (We also like to dress it up and call it a “ New Fashioned”—something that might make purists squirm but gets renegades to pay attention.) Find both recipes here.

The Sidecar Recipe

Another “reimagined classic” that replaces bourbon with dark rum. The Sidecar is rumored to have been a favorite during the prohibition era in the U.S. and the ingredients have evolved over the decades. We make our ours with fresh squeezed lime and orange. While that does mean it calls for four ingredients instead of three, we think you’ll find it just as easy to make as the Daiquiri and every bit as delicious.

Manhattan Cocktail Recipes

A quick search on the interwebs will reveal that the origins of the Manhattan are shrouded in mystery. One theory attributes it to a party held at the Manhattan Club in NYC, while another claims the Hoffman House. However it was born, we’ve joined the long line of bartenders creating our own special spin on the classic, replacing (you guessed it) bourbon with rum. We love a touch of bay leaf reduction, which you’ll find in this recipe, or dressing it up in this Fall Manhattan (trust us, it’s just as delicious any time of year).

Painkiller Cocktail Recipe

May we suggest this rum classic for a weekend brunch? Pineapple juice, orange juice and cream of coconut make it a sweet and fruity treat. Plus, only four ingredients to the recipe.

If alcohol forward cocktails aren’t your thing, or you’re doing some summer entertaining, this cocktail is sure to please.
