Tales of the Cocktail 2019
Where you’ll find MONTANYA DISTILLERS
AT TALES of the Cocktail
July 17th - 21st, 2019, New Orleans
This is a not-to-be-missed annual event for our founder and owner Karen Hoskin. It’s such a great chance to see what’s new in the world of spirits and connect with distillers, bartenders, and tastemakers. Here’s where you’ll find Montanya Rum’s crew of three (Karen, Michelle and Lyn) at this year’s Tales of the Cocktail:
Preservation Hall Jazz Band
Wednesday July 17th
9pm
Preservation Hall
What better way to kick off a visit to New Orleans than an evening with the Preservation Hall Jazz Band? Founded in the 1960s, this iconic band plays in Preservation Hall in the French Quarter, and has been a vanguard of tradition while also helping to drive the New Orleans music scene forward.
The Montanya crew has two kickoff traditions during our annual migration to New Orleans for a busy week of events - We can’t miss oysters and champagne at The Royal House (preferably on the balcony) and our celebration of NOLA music with the Preservation Hall Jazz Band!
Montanya Distiller’s VIP Lunch
Thursday, July 18th
11-2:30pm
Sylvain New Orleans
Karen hosts this private, invitation-only luncheon every year at Tales of the Cocktail—so you could say it’s become a Montanya tradition. This will be the ninth year! It’s a great way to connect with friends from the rum world, bartenders, distributors, media and special friends, to enjoy unforgettable NOLA cuisine and, of course, Montanya rums in beautiful cocktails.
This event is invitation only and at capacity for 2019. If someday you would like to receive an invitation, please email Karen.
Cane and Table Dinner and Cocktails
Thursday, July 18th
8pm-9:30pm
This is one of our two favorite rum bar destinations in NOLA. We look forward to buying a round for our rum loving friends and colleagues. Come say hi!
Afterward, we will head to Latitude 29 for NOLA’s most amazing Tiki cocktails at 10pm (or thereabouts).
After a round here, we will inevitably end up out dancing on Frenchman’s Street (we love the Spotted Cat!)
We may even cap off the evening with coffee and beignets at Cafe du Monde.
Dame Hall of Fame Induction and Luncheon
Friday, July 19th
10:30-11:30am, Induction Ceremony
11am-2pm, Luncheon
Arnaud’s Restaurant
Ever since there were cocktails there have been dames—strong, confident women that were happy to serve you a drink or kick you out if you’ve had too many. Today there are dames around the world shaking up the industry. At the Dame Hall of Fame luncheon, a new class of extraordinary and spirited cocktail women will receive the recognition they deserve: Ezra Star, Carina Soto Velasquez, and Pioneer Robin Nance. (Karen was an honoree and speaker at The Dame Hall of Fame event way back in 2011! A million years ago.)
Jonathan & Kent’s Excellent Adventure: 80s Movie Cocktails
Friday, July 19th

The Empire Bar at Broussard’s
We can’t say it better than the event description for the Tales website: Whether you're coming Back To The Future, Trading Places with a friend, or you're on Vacation, come Stand By us at The Empire Bar at Broussard's. Kent Westmoreland, Top Gun at The Empire Bar, and The Untouchable Jonathan Pogash will delight and amaze your senses.

I Love Rum as it Has No Rules: The Debate
Moderated by Ian Burrell
Saturday, July 20th
1-2:30pm
Royal Sonesta - Ticket required. Sold Out
Rum has been called the wild west of spirits as it has no international rules, regulations or guidelines on its definition. In what is sure to be a spirited discussion (pun intended), this panel will discuss whether rum needs more classifications and regulations.
